Applications Programmer

We are currently seeking an Applications Programmer to join our team of professionals.


You will be responsible for building and maintaining the IT infrastructure that supports the finance function of Adstra. The existing team has been busy upgrading existing systems and developing new ones. They are now looking for someone to join them that wants to apply their recent education, learn new skills, and shape the company's future. You will be assigned independent projects that will become critical components of what the team is building so discipline and time management will be critical in this fully remote role.


Our “ideal candidate” is an individual who enjoys working as part of a team and wants to start their career with a company they can grow with. The existing team is east-coast based. While geographic location of your home office is not important, your ability to connect with the team each day will be critical.

Responsibilities for this opportunity include, but are not limited to:

  • Aid senior engineer in the development of financial applications, taking care to learn from them and take on more responsibility in large projects over time;
  • With and without the aid of senior staff, design, develop and distribute reports using various tools such as Java, Jasper, and SQL;
  • Work with end users to gather application and report requirements;
  • Troubleshoot issues with production applications and escalate to senior engineers as necessary;
  • Work with senior engineer to document and analyze all processes and propose improvements;
  • Run production jobs daily and monthly and escalate issues to senior engineering staff;
  • Ability to clearly and professionally interact with non-technical staff to gather information on problems and requirements.


In addition, our "ideal candidate" has the following skills & experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in technical field such as computer science required and 1-3 years of relevant experience;

  • Professional certifications preferred in some of the following: SQL, Javascipt, Python, or PHP
  • Intermediate level Linux ability;
  • Intermediate to advanced programming skills in Javascript, PHP, C, Python, and reports development in major BI tools (Excel and Cognos are ideal);
  • Advanced SQL skills (Oracle or PostgreSQL a plus) 
  • Rapid prototyping ability is preferred.
