Sr. Director, Head of Engineering

We are currently seeking a Sr. Director, Head of Engineering  to join our team of professionals.

 

Candidates should be naturally curious, detail oriented, have a sharp analytical mind, proficient with a variety of cutting-edge toolsets, exhibit a penchant to drive efficiency through automation, and ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical people alike.  The incumbent will provide strategic direction and overall leadership for Adstra’s Engineering team.  This is a player/coach role and the incumbent will contribute significantly to meeting established deliverables each sprint through his/her own contributions in the data science, data engineering, and software & systems development tasks.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineers into engineering managers and/or senior ICs, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and career development to build diverse, inclusive, and world-class engineering teams.
  • Translate product strategy into actionable engineering priorities, ensuring alignment across product, sales, and technical teams.
  • Drive operational excellence through strong agile practices, resource planning, and clear performance metrics (OKRs, KPIs, SLAs).
  • Partner with Product teams to align UI/UX engineering priorities with user experience goals.
  • Oversee front-end delivery practices, ensuring performance, accessibility, and scalability across SaaS applications.
  • Ensure the delivery of secure, reliable, and scalable SaaS applications by upholding coding standards, architecture best practices, and quality controls.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to balance business goals with technical excellence, communicating progress and challenges effectively.
  • Manage departmental budgets, headcount planning, and vendor relationships to optimize resources and support growth.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and engaging team culture that encourages learning, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Set overall strategic direction for the Engineering team, assessing and selecting tools and methodologies to be used to accomplish our product’s development roadmap, strategy, scale and reliability.
  • Interface on a regular basis with colleagues from other functions within Adstra, specifically Product, Sales, Delivery, and Account Management.
  • Participate as a member of the Adstra Extended Leadership Team.
  • Enable the use of data, statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory and high complexity predictive modeling and fact-based management to drive data and identity solutions product creation.
  • Provide support to Sales as a subject matter expert for high-revenue-potential engagements.
  • Participate in new product development meetings to provide a technical viewpoint/perspective to Product that will enable them to understand what is possible and associated costs to execute on any particular new solution.
  • Serve as the Scrum Master for the Engineering sprints.
  • Effectively lead Engineering teams activities within a cross-functional Product Operating Model (POM) to solve customer needs and meeting business goals.

 

Technical Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Expertise in AI technologies, driving successful adoption across engineering, data infrastructure, and customer-facing products.   
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for cloud-native SaaS solutions leveraging platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure
  • Guide teams in designing and optimizing data pipelines and storage solutions with Snowflake and Databricks, ensuring scalability, performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Drive best practices in cloud architecture, security, and compliance across multi-cloud environments.
  • Lead teams working with modern programming languages and frameworks including Scala, Java, TypeScript/Node.js, and Bash, driving engineering best practices and code quality.
  • Champion automation with CI/CD pipelines, dbt, Airflow, and Terraform, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and repeatability across environments.
  • Establish standards for modern engineering practices including infrastructure-as-code, observability, and secure-by-design development.
  • Evaluate and adopt AI and other emerging technologies to support business growth and maintain competitive advantage.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 15+ years’ experience in engineering with progressive increases in management responsibility.
  • 10+ years’ experience building and leading highly successful Engineering teams
